In last few weeks a number of Ubuntu users asked when will I start providing updated Cinelerra 2.1 packages. The answer, sadly, is that I will not and that I can not. As such I invite anyone who wants to take this roll over to mail me and I’ll add your website to my README.
Even though it is hard for me to make this decision it is logical and for the best. Reasons include the fact that I’m currently studying abroad and have only my iBook with me. Having a PowerPC platform effectively means that I can not even test packages I would build. The other reason is that for some months the Xen virtual machine I was using to build the packages is offline. It does not seem that it will be back online in near future. The last reason is that I will not be using Cinelerra while abroad so I would like to leave this task to someone who is more motivated to have up-to date packages available.

I wouldn’t mind an Ubuntu PPC version, since that it the platform I tend to use. I’m not a C programmer by any stretch of the imagination, but if enough instructions are provided, or the makefile is idiot proof enough, I can compile the package. Then if I can compile the package I can roll it into a deb file.
BTW what about cross-compiling. i.e. compiling cinelerra for x86 using tools on the PPC?

I’ve tried installing cinelerra, just following the steps you give in your web, I have problems installing the package because there’re some dependencies and I don’t understand what do they mean, these are the dependencies:
liblame0
libquicktimehv
but neither of them is installable, what can I do??

I’m trying to install on an Athlon 64 system, and apt-get just says “Couldn’t find package cinelerra”
I looked at the repositories and tried downloading the .deb files manually, but they’re all i386 packages, so I get a “wrong architecture” error. Is there a mistake somewhere here?

My question is, if I can use your packages prepared for dapper also for edgy…?
My wish is to fully get rid of Win.ows (and Pin.acle).
I found Kubuntu as a genial tool to achieve this. I can do everything I could do on Win.ows – except video editing.
I have three boxes to experiment with, all are set up with Kubuntu Edgy (installed, not liveCD): a VMWare instance with 256 MB mem on a laptop (T42 IBM), an old Compaq Deskpro x86 (666MHz proc, 768 MB mem) and one AMD DualCore 64-bit box (2.4 Ghz, 2 Gig mem) which should be the main engine if I can get it work.
I would appreciate any hints.
